Liars Poker
Bidding game: each player has a number of lives (cards). Take turns bidding a poker hand type for the combined table, or call bust. When someone calls bust, everyone reveals; the loser of the round loses one life. Last player with cards wins the game.
How it works
The last player with at least one card wins the game. If multiple players are eliminated in the same round, the last one standing wins.
Rules
- Everyone posts a wager at the start. Each player is dealt N cards (lives), chosen by the dealer (3 to 7).
- Play starts with the player to the left of the dealer. On your turn you either make a higher bid or call bust.
- A bid is a claim that the combined pool of everyone’s cards makes at least that poker hand: high card, pair, two pair, three of a kind, full house, or four of a kind (for example “pair of kings”, not “3 kings”).
- Your bid must be strictly higher than the current bid: a stronger hand type, or the same type with higher ranks (pair of aces beats pair of kings; two pair is compared high pair then low pair).
- When you call bust, everyone reveals. If the last bid is not made by the combined cards, the bidder loses a life. If the bid is made, the caller loses a life.
- The player who loses a life discards one card. When only one player has cards left, they win the game.
Dealer's options
- Wager — The wager each player posts at the start of the game.
- Lives — Number of cards (lives) per player: 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7. Default is 5.
